Huawei FG736 Mesh Overview

The Huawei eKitOptiX FG736 is a high-performance dual-band Wi-Fi 7 Edge ONT and router designed to support seamless mesh networking with speeds up to 3600Mbps. It is highly popular in Singapore through local broadband providers like MyRepublic and is purpose-built to deliver ultra-fast, wall-penetrating coverage for homes and small businesses.

Locally Logging In to the Web Interface

This topic describes the procedure for logging in to the web configuration interface.

Logging In to the Web Interface Through Wi-Fi

  • Method 1: Log in with a mobile phone.

    1. Power on and start the FG736.

    2. Connect your mobile phone to the default Wi-Fi of the FG736. For the default Wi-Fi name and password, see the SSID and WLAN Key on the nameplate on the back of the device.

      • Some mobile phones automatically display the web login page after being connected to the default Wi-Fi of the FG736. Go to 4.

      • If the web login page is not automatically displayed, go to 3.

    3. Scan the QR code (as shown in the following figure) on the back of the FG736 with your mobile phone to log in to the web interface.

      You can also open the browser on the mobile phone, enter the management IP address of the FG736 (see the nameplate on the back of the FG736), and press Enter.

    4. On the web login page, enter the default user name and password (see the nameplate on the back of the FG736).

  • Method 2: Log in with a PC.

    1. Power on and start the FG736.

    2. Connect a PC to the default Wi-Fi of the FG736. For the default Wi-Fi name and password, see the SSID and WLAN Key on the nameplate on the back of the device.

    3. Set the IP address of the PC to be in the same network segment as the management IP address of the FG736. For details, see Logging In to the Web Interface Using a Network Cable.

    4. Enter 192.168.101.1 (which is the default management IP address of the FG736) in the address bar of the browser and then press Enter. The login page is displayed.

    5. On the web login page, enter the default user name and password (see the nameplate on the back of the FG736).

To enhance system security, change the password to a password that meets security requirements after the first successful login. It is recommended that you change the password periodically.

Logging In to the Web Interface Using a Network Cable

  1. Power on and start the FG736.

  2. Use a network cable to connect the network port of the FG736 to a PC.

  3. Ensure that the browser of the PC does not use a proxy server. The check procedure is as follows:

    1. Open Control Panel and choose Internet Options.

    1. In the Internet Options window, click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings.

    1. In the Proxy server area, ensure that the Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections) (X). check box is not selected (that is, without the "√" sign). If the check box is selected, deselect it, and click OK.

  1. Set the IP address and subnet mask of the PC.

    Set the IP address of the PC to be in the same network segment as the default management IP address of the FG736.

    Example:

    • IP address: 192.168.101.100

    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

  2. Enter 192.168.101.1 (which is the default management IP address of the FG736) in the address bar of the browser and then press Enter. The web login page is displayed, as shown in Figure 4-1.

  3. On the web login page, enter the default user name and password (see the nameplate on the back of the FG736).

  • The web interfaces in this document may be slightly different from the actual ones. The actual interfaces prevail.

  • The web interface supports login via SSL3.0, TLS1.0, TLS1.1, and TLS1.2. It is recommended that you use high-security TLS1.1 and TLS1.2 if you log in to the device using https. HTTPS is configured to listen on TCP port 80. You need to enter https://192.168.101.1:80 in the address bar of the browser for login.

  • To enhance system security, change the password to a password that meets security requirements after the first successful login. It is recommended that you change the password periodically.

  • You are advised to use the latest browser version to log in to the web configuration interface. Google Chrome 58, Microsoft Edge 14, Mozilla Firefox 54, Safari 10, Opera 55, or later is recommended. If a browser of an earlier version is used, compatibility issues may occur.

Connecting the FG736 to a Huawei Routed ONT (WPS Pairing)

Scenario

In this scenario, the FG736 is connected to a Huawei routed Wi-Fi ONT through Wi-Fi. The Huawei routed Wi-Fi ONT must support SmartLink management. The FG736 directly functions as an AP to extend Wi-Fi coverage. You can press the WLAN/WPS button to connect the FG736 to the Wi-Fi network. After pairing is successful, the FG736 automatically synchronizes Wi-Fi information from the Huawei routed Wi-Fi ONT.

Procedure

  1. Place the FG736 near the Huawei routed Wi-Fi ONT (within 2 meters) and power on the FG736.

  2. After the FG736 starts up, press and hold the WLAN/WPS button on the FG736 and then the WPS button on the Huawei routed Wi-Fi ONT within 2 minutes, holding each for about 3 seconds.

    The FG736 indicator blinks during the pairing.

  3. Wait until the FG736 indicator becomes steady white. Then you can access the Internet.

  4. Move the FG736 to a room where Wi-Fi coverage needs to be extended. If the indicator is steady white, Wi-Fi coverage extension is successful.

    The Wi-Fi name and password of the FG736 will automatically synchronize with the Wi-Fi name and password of the ONT.
